To tell ya the truth, I'm not sure what the goal is. The bird is certainly the subject of the photo, but what I really want out of photogging is to make good pictures.
I like photo number one. I think seeing more fence and branches gives the photo depth and identify the surroundings in relation to the subject better . Also the colours look more natural.

Number 2 is better as a bird shot. (Is that your goal?) Number 1 is a more interesting photo.

Yeah, colour manipulation in Photoshop sure isn't easy.
